Wiring An S.Lilley BC Switched Lampholder

There are a couple of different ways that manufacturers provide the earth terminal in lampholders.

S-Lilley which is a UK based manufacturer use an internal earth connection so there is no terminal seen on the outside of the lampholder.

The switched S Lilley lampholders provide 3 terminals on the inside in both their standard and safer switched lampholders. There is a thin metal bar that make the contact to the body of the lampholder from the earth terminal.

 

  • Bottom Section (Cap)
  • Top Section (Skirt)
  • Connection Unit (Insert)
  • Shade Ring
  • Lock Ring

Let’s have a closer look at the S.Lilley BC | B22 Switched Lampholder’s components.

 

Step 1

Take the Bottom section and screw it onto your fixing point.

 

Step 2

Wire the connection unit as shown in the image.

It does not matter which way around the Live (Brown) and Neutral (Blue) go.

As long as the earth (green/yellow) goes in the middle connection.

Step 3

Carefully seat the connection unit into the bottom section of the lampholder, ensuring the metal tab is sitting over the edge of the bottom section.

 

Step 4

Finally, take the top section and carefully screw it down over the connection unit.

As these lampholders are solid brass they can cross thread easily, please ensure to take your time when tightening the unit up.

It may help to fully remove the smaller shade ring.
